Mary Elizabeth Hamilton

Mary Elizabeth Hamilton 82, of Austin Texas passed away April 20, 2023, at Seton Hospital. She is rejoined with those who predeceased her; parents, Harry P Johnston and Mary L. Beswick-Johnston; son, David K. Hamilton, and siblings Harry P. Johnston III, Clarence L. Johnston, William S. Johnston, and George C. Johnston.

She is survived by her children, Donald W. Hamilton and his wife DiAnn; Darren L. Hamilton and his wife Tonya; four grandchildren, Britney A. Hamilton, Kaleigh A. Hamilton, Parke M. Hamilton, Kennedy T. Hamilton; one step granddaughter, Brittni D. Cloud; a sister, Lois Johnston Knight of Albuquerque, and three sisters-in-law, Shirley Johnston, Phyllis Johnston, and Tammy Johnston.

Mary was born August 1, 1940, in Pitcairn Pennsylvania. The family moved from Pitcairn to Albuquerque, New Mexico in September 1953. She graduated from Highland High School in Albuquerque in 1958. She married Bobby Hamilton June 13, 1958, and had three sons, David, Donny, and Darren. The family lived in Phoenix and Tucson Arizona and Albuquerque New Mexico before settling in Austin Texas in 1982, where Mary lived out the rest of her life.

Mary’s family and friends will tell you that she was the youngest 82 year old they knew. She was always open to go and do just about anything with friends and family. At one point in her life, she was working three jobs at one time. Age was just a number. She even had a road trip planned to go to Albuquerque in June. She was spunky, funny, and fearless. Mary retired from Texas Department of Public Safety in May of 2019 at the age of 78. She enjoyed floral arranging, traveling, shopping, dining out, football (Houston Texans was her favorite team) and celebrating with family and friends.

A memorial service for Mary will be held Friday, May 19, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas 78752.
