Mary Frances Hall, of Austin, died in her sleep Saturday, October 1, 2005 after a long battle with Alzheimers disease. She was born October 9, 1930 in Bowie, Texas. Mary was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.S. Vestal, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded by her husband of over 50 years, Jerry Hall and a daughter, Martha Hall. Survivors include her daughter, Julie Hall of Austin; son, Richard M. Hall of Austin; daughter-in-law, Sue Hall; and a granddaughter, Sarah Hall of San Antonio. Marys father was the Superintendent of Schools in several Texas towns including Dublin, Seagraves and Dimmitt. Her mother was an elementary school teacher. Mary grew up in Dublin and moved to Seagraves with her parents when she was a junior in high school. After graduating with honors in 1947, she enrolled in the school of journalism at Texas Tech. She met her husband while she was a student reporter on the school newspaper where he was the editor. Mary worked in newspapers in Lubbock and Hillsboro. She was an outstanding design and layout artist and after she and her family moved to Austin in 1965, Glastron Boat Co., Bob Hammond & Associates and Fralix employed her as a writer and design artist. An avid reader, Mary was seldom without a book or magazine. She loved animals and always had room for a stray cat or dog, therefore, the family has requested donations in her memory be made to the Austin Humane Society. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 4, 2005 at the Texas State Cemetery. Obituary and guestbook available online at wcfish.com
