Longtime Austin resident Lou Dickinson, 100, died peacefully Tuesday evening, September 29 at Westminster Manor, Austin, Texas. Lou was born in 1915 in Boone, Iowa. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Des Moines; attended Drake University and graduated from The University of Nebraska in 1936 with a B.A. in Journalism. At Nebraska she was active in Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and Theta Sigma Phi (women's .journalism organization).
Lou and her family moved to Austin in 1956. She was active in the Settlement Club, a devoted member of Kappa Alpha Theta Alumni and the "Sewing Club". She enjoyed her family, her many friends, reading and playing bridge. Lou will be remembered for always acknowledging her friends' birthdays and anniversaries. On the rare occasion she missed someone's event they would soon call to check on her.
Mrs. Dickinson was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Edward Dickinson II. She is survived by her daughters, Sarah Grant of Phoenix, Anne Davidson and husband John of Terrell, TX, and son Edward (Dick) Dickinson III of Lexington, KY.; four grandchildren, Trevi Harris Murphy, Ashley Grant-Cavanaugh, Greg Davidson and Marc Davidson; and seven great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Sophie and Claire Harris; Lyla and Ezra Grant-Cavanaugh; and Garrett and Sheridan Davidson.
The family would like to thank Westminster Manor and the Westminster Health Care Center (The Arbor) Staff for the loving care given to our mother during her 22 years of residency. The family especially appreciates the support and love given to Lou by Chris Horton, Ann Keyser and her special friend, Ann's granddaughter, Meredith.
Per Lou's request there will be no services.
