Major Martin T. Murphy passed away suddenly on Monday, August 27th. He was born in Buffalo, New York in 1932. His parents were Martin M. Murphy and Marion D. Murphy and his only sibling is Maureen Sullivan. Martin enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in the Korean War. While in the Air Force he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in History.
Martin worked his way up from an enlisted airman to the rank of Major. Martin met his beautiful wife Sylvia on a blind date in Buffalo, New York and they were married for over 60 years. They had four children…Gary, Guy, Glenn and Heidi. They also have six grandchildren… Shaun, Johnathan, Heather, Ryan, Kevin and Katelyn. They also had two great grandchildren…Tristan and Grayson.
Upon retirement from the Air Force, Martin enjoyed working at Texas Instruments and owning his own business, Just Cuts. He and Sylvia also enjoyed serving the community by volunteering at Meals on Wheels and the Cedar Park Police Department.
He was predeceased by his parents and son, Guy Murphy.
A visitation will be held at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills funeral home at 9700 Anderson Mill Road, Austin, Texas on Wednesday, September 5th from 6:00-8:00pm. A funeral mass will be at St. Thomas More Catholic Church located at 10205 FM 620 N, Austin, Texas, on September 6th at 10:00am. His interment will be at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.
