Martha ‘Marty’ Douglas Rosenfield died Friday, December 31, 2021, peacefully at her home in Austin, Texas. She was 78 years old. She was a cherished wife, mother, grammy, favorite aunt, ‘family rock,’ community matriarch, trusted friend, fine linen dealer, and professional trust officer.
Mrs. Rosenfield was born Martha Jean Douglas on December 7, 1943, in McAllen, Texas. Her family moved to Austin in 1952, and she was an Alumni of Austin High School, class of 1962.
Some of her fondest childhood memories were with her siblings and friends swimming at East Avenue pool and collecting chinstraps from the players on the field after UT football games. Her first job was at Rexall Drug Store where she worked long enough to buy her sweet mama a percolator coffee maker.
Marty married her beloved husband, Ron Rosenfield, an Airman at Bergstrom AFB, in 1970. They raised three loving children together in Austin. Mrs. Rosenfield was a founding member of St. Richard’s Episcopal Church in Round Rock, and her quiet and steadfast faith carried her through life’s adversities. Marty worked in the loan business in Austin for many years (she enjoyed the story of her processing Willie Nelson’s first loan) and transitioned to trust management where she finished her long career as an AVP at Austin Trust Company. She and Ron loved driving across America’s beautiful byways and staying ‘off the beaten path.’ Marty was a voracious reader, family historian, and measured wealth by the love of her family. To that extent she lived a very rich life. To know Marty was to receive warm hugs with her sweet smile and share a good laugh. It was said that there were no strangers to Marty, only friends she hadn’t met yet.
She was preceded in death by her father Robert Douglas, mother Hattie (Baldwin) Douglas, brother Arthur ‘Art’ Douglas, and brother Robert ‘Bobby’ Douglas. She is survived by her husband of nearly 52 years, Ronald (Ron) Rosenfield, daughters Kim Kelley and Donna O’Loughlin, son Lance Rosenfield (Ashley), her four grandchildren, whom she cherished with all her heart, Forrest O’Loughlin, Spencer O’Loughlin, Katie (Johnson) Briggs, and Levon Rosenfield. Her sister India Wells, her SIL Donna Douglas along with three nephews and eight nieces. She will be sorely missed by her family and many friends.
In place of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Marty’s honor to Austin High School Continuing Education Foundation, www.austinhighfoundation.org.
A memorial service will be hosted on February 5th at 11:00 AM at St. Richard’s Episcopal Church, 1420 E Palm Valley Blvd, Round Rock, TX 78664, and a repast will immediately follow at the church’s parish hall.
