MARSHALL MARK PEARLSTEIN, 73, died peacefully on Saturday, April 19, 2014 following a courageous battle with cancer. Marshall was born in St. Louis, Missouri on February 2, 1941 to Samuel "Pat" and Delphine (nee Wittels) Pearlstein. He was raised in St. Louis and graduated from U City High School in 1958. At the urging of a close Tulsa cousin (I'll beat you up if you don't), Marshall attended the University of Oklahoma graduating with a Bachelors in Business. Shortly thereafter, he married his college sweetheart, Judy and returned to St. Louis where their first daughter Nancy was born. Soon after, the three moved to Little Rock (Judy's home town) where Sally and David were born.
Marshall's Hungarian blood had him moving - to Oklahoma City, Tulsa and finally Houston, where he met and married Robin Smolin. She couldn't keep him in one place either. In 2004, they "retired" to Sun City Texas. Here Marshall kept himself busy with his home-based travel business, playing poker and bocce ball, square dancing and more, always meeting new people and making new friends. Volunteering with the Sun City Kiwanis, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and the Williamson Museum fulfilled his desire to give back to communities which had given so much to him.
Marshall was predeceased by his parents and twin infants. He is survived by his wife of almost 34 years, Robin; his children Nancy Pearlstein, Sally Pearlstein Tibbs and husband Todd, David Pearlstein and wife Mary; his grandchildren Daniel Pearlstein, Christopher Tibbs, Melissa and Jenny Davis; great-grandson Nicholas Davis; sister Pamela Hubbard and husband Morris; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Rocky and Marsha Sutton-Smolin; nephews Max and Noah Sutton-Smolin; "adopted" children and grandchildren Michelle, Jason, Jackie and J.T. Kirbie, and his very special 4-legged son Willie.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Marshall's memory would be appreciated to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center for Leukemia and/or Merkel Cell research, The American Cancer Society, CanCare of Houston or your favorite charity.
The family wishes to thank his oncologist, Dr. David George, and his wonderful caregiver nurse, Nicolle Crean for their wonderful and compassionate care.
