Marie Catherine, age 89, passed on January 7, 2013. Marie was born on September 15, 1923, in Fort Worth, Texas to parents Nora and A.D. Riley. Marie graduated from Incarnate Word College in San Antonio, Texas, and worked for many years in the library system at the University of Texas at Austin. Marie was a devoted member of the Catholic Daughters of America for 65 years, the Ladies of Charity, and the Catholic Study Club. Marie married Frank Gattuso and had two children; after Mr. Gattuso's death she married Jim Henery. Marie was predeceased by her parents; brother, Alfred M. Riley; husbands, Frank Gattuso and Jim Henery. To leave to cherish her memory are daughter, Cathy Gattuso and son, Tony Gattuso and wife, Dianne. Grandchildren, Felicia Culbert and husband, Rob; David Gattuso, and Anthony Gattuso and wife Jenna. Grandchildren include Xulani, Karli and Anthony III; and nephews, Michael Riley, and wife Sally, and Patrick and wife, Patti, and numerous family members. Marie was a virtuous person and devout in her practice of religion. She was widely recognized as kind, fair, and gracious. She balanced seriousness and humor in ways that could brighten even dark moments. In her manner and words, she conveyed faith, hope, and charity.
The family will receive friends from six o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening, on Thursday, the 10th of January 2013, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas. A Rosary will be recited at seven o’clock.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ten o’clock in the morning on Friday, the 11th of January, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 4311 Small Drive, Austin, Texas. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery under the direction of Cook-Walden Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Vincent De Paul through a local church or at the St. Vincent De Paul Society.
