Lynnda Elon Fletcher, age 78, of Austin, Texas, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 13, 2021. Her earthly body failed too early, but her mind and spirit were sharp until the end and are now at peace in the presence of Jesus. She was born January 10, 1943 in Goliad, Texas to Cleve and June Birdwell; played her flute, twirled fire-tipped batons and was drum major under the Friday night lights of that small south Texas town, before accepting a college scholarship for her operatic caliber voice.
Lynnda was an enormously gifted musician and artist, a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and loyal friend. You could trust her to guard your most private secrets. Above all, she was a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ and a founding member of Dayspring Fellowship church in Austin. She had a rich soprano voice that could fill a large room, she loved her flute and expressed her artistic nature in too many other mediums to list. Her hands were rarely idle. Lynnda’s strongest gift was her ability to make others feel at ease with her wonderfully easy and boisterous laugh, her servant’s heart and generous, forgiving nature. If you knew her, you loved her.
Lynnda is survived by her husband of 59 years, Ben F. Fletcher; their two sons and wives, Andy and Carol Fletcher of Dallas, TX, Judge and Cindy Fletcher of Seabrook, TX; daughter, Amy Johnson of Cedar Park, TX; grandchildren William and Jordan Fletcher, David Fletcher, Caleb and Samantha Johnson, Andrew Fletcher, and Hannah Johnson; five great-grandchildren; her brother and his wife John and Sherri Birdwell of Liberty, TX, and many other extended family and friends.
Family & friends are invited to attend visitation on Sunday, September 19, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Blvd., Austin, Texas 78752.
A memorial service will be held Monday, September 20, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Dayspring Fellowship Church, 5500 Avenue G, Austin, Texas 78751 followed by interment at Austin Memorial Park, 2800 Hancock Drive, Austin, Texas 78731 at 11:30 a.m.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the nurses and caregivers through Texas Home Health and Hospice and other agencies for their care and compassion.
