Lovie Edgar woke from a peaceful sleep to see the face of her Savior Jesus Christ and begin her eternal life in heaven on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at her residence at The Blake in Kingsport, TN. Mrs. Edgar was born April 23, 1924, to Lum H. and Alberta Griffith Howeth. She was employed by Zale’s (Mission) Jewelry Company for most of her working career. She was an active member of Great Hills Baptist Church for almost sixty years until she moved to Kingsport, where she lived with her younger daughter’s family for 5 1/2 years before moving into The Blake. Lovie was a member of Colonial Heights Baptist Church in Kingsport.
Lovie’s life goal was to honor her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, to know and live out His Word, and to train her children to do the same. The joy of her life was her large family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard V. B. Edgar; son, Richard Elgin Edgar; her brothers J.A. “Jeff” Howeth and J.G. “Johnny” Howeth. She is survived by her brother Steven Howeth as well as by her children Elizabeth Adleta; John W. Edgar (Anna Marie); and Denise Powell Matthew (Jerry), in addition to fifteen grandchildren and their spouses, and nineteen great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar Blvd, Austin, Texas, on Sunday, December 19, at 9:00 am, followed by a graveside service at Austin Memorial Park, where Lovie will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your church or favorite charity.
