Lorine Kram Ward, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away May 27, 2016 at the age of 91. She was born to Edmund Kram and Freda Bleier Kram in Shiner, Texas, and was the oldest of three children.
Lorine grew up in Moulton, Texas where her parents owned and operated Kram’s Garage. She graduated from Moulton High School (Sam and Will Moore Institute) in 1943, and moved to Victoria where she worked as a telephone operator. She soon transferred to Austin where she met Clyde Ward on a blind date. Six months later on February 6, 1946, they entered married life as part of what has been called the Greatest Generation. Lorine and Clyde were married 63 years before Clyde’s death in 2009. They spent all their married life in Austin, where they raised their three children – David, Dace and Daphne. Lorine was a working mother, retiring as office manager at Austin Anesthesiology Group in 1990. After retirement, Lorine and Clyde enjoyed traveling for pleasure in the US and abroad, including many trips with Tauck Tours, Myra Mcilvain Tours, Running R, and the Flying Longhorns. At one time, the couple had Longhorn season tickets for football, baseball, softball, volleyball, and basketball. There were many evenings where supper was a hot dog at the Erwin Center, and burnt orange was a common color theme in Lorine’s wardrobe. Always one to keep busy, Lorine volunteered at St. David’s Hospital, “retiring” as a volunteer captain after 14 years to care for her husband at home. As her own health failed, Lorine was cared for by her caregivers at home, and later by the staff at Sundance Memory Care. Lorine will be remembered for many things – for her beautiful smile, her penchant for Blue Bell, her passion for sports, her adventurous spirit, dominoes and butterflies, Keds and “hookanannies,” but mostly she will be remembered for the great love she had for her family. She will be missed – but her love lives on.
Lorine was predeceased by her parents, her husband, her sister Alice Miller, and her brother Edward Kram. She is survived by her children David (Linda) Ward, Patrick Dace (Laura) Ward, and Daphne (Robert) Ring; her five grandchildren Dawn (Matt) Shaw, Jason (Jahnna) Ward, Derek (Sarah) Ring, Kara (Will) Todd, and Amanda (Derek) Harwood; and her five great-grandchildren Sydney Shaw, Ethan Shaw, Emerson Ring, Sawyer Ring, and Scarlett Ward.
A visitation will be held on June 1, 2016 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 N Lamar, Austin, TX 78752. Funeral services will be held on June 2, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Faith Lutheran Church, 6600 Woodrow Ave, Austin, TX 78757. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville.
The family requests that donations be made in Lorine’s memory to Faith Lutheran Church, or to a charity of your choice.
