It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family of Leslie Allen "L.A." Wood, Jr., 92, of Austin, Texas announces his passing to a better place. He was born in Hillsboro, Texas on November 22, 1925 to Leslie A. Wood, Sr. and Annie Mae Wood.
L.A. proudly served our country in the United States Navy during WWII, including the D-Day invasion and numerous missions in the Mediterranean and South Pacific. Upon completion of his service, he joined Southwestern Bell, where he spent 35 years before retiring. He was an active member of Manchaca Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and the Masonic Lodge.
L.A. lived a full life as a kind-hearted husband and father. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Nonie and Alma. He is survived by his loving wife and lifelong dancing partner, Norma Wood; his sister, Tommie Zahorik; his brother, Harry Wood and wife Deana; his son Tom Wood and wife Corbie; his stepchildren Chris Carpenter and husband Michael and Greg Henderson and wife Deborah; his grandchildren Scott Sexton and wife Wendy, Brian Wood and wife Lisa, Brandon Wood, Brody Wood, Brice Wood and wife Mercedes, Sam Henderson, and Ben Henderson; 8 great-grandchildren; numerous other relatives; and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home.
Graveside Services will be at 1:30 P.M., Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Resthaven Memorial Park in Lubbock, Texas.
