Leslie Charles Smith, 83, passed away on Friday October 31, 2014. Leslie was born in Click, Llano County, Texas on October 9, 1931 to Leslie Morgan “Tess” and Annie W Smith. He grew up in Llano and at a young age started working in his father’s Humble station and developed a life-time appreciation of automobiles! He graduated from Llano High School in 1949 as Valedictorian. He attended the University of Texas at Austin for one year majoring in Chemical Engineering and lettered in Freshman Tennis. He transferred to Texas Lutheran College in Seguin in 1950 and graduated in 1953 with a B.S. Degree in Chemistry. There he lettered in football, tennis and track.
He served for 2 years in the U S Army, 18 months of that in Germany from 1953-1955. Upon returning to the U.S. he taught school and coached for two years. In 1957 he began employment as a Chemist and Toxicologist at the Texas Department of Public Safety, retiring in 1986 after 28 years of employment.
Leslie married Angelyn Wuthrich, his college sweetheart in 1957. They shared many years of hobbies, photography, traveling, collecting odds and ends and spending free time at the lake. In 1962, Leslie and Angie were Sports Car Club of America National Rally Champion driver and navigator, having won rallies in Arizona, Colorado and Texas in Leslie’s Porsche 1600 N Cabrolet.
Leslie was preceded in death by his parents “Tess” and Annie Smith. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Angie Smith, his sister Tessie Smith and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions in Leslie’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
