Leo Vincent McConnell III was born in Houston, TX, on April 3, 1958 and passed away on October 23, 2023 at the age of 65. He was predeceased by his father, Leo V. McConnell, on January 29, 2022 and is survived by his mother, Mary H. Baker, stepmother, Gabby Reyna McConnell, and his sisters, Linda Thurmond and Peggy McConnell, his nephew, Logan Thurmond and his wife, Rachel, his niece, Nola Hranicky and husband, Chris and great nieces and nephews, Amber Thurmond and husband, Matt, Zane Thurmond, Reagan Rodriguez, Charlie Ray Thurmond, Austin Hranicky, Wyatt Thurmond, great-great nieces, Bristol and Teagan Hranicky.
He attended St. Austin’s Catholic School, O’Henry Junior High, and Austin High School. He graduated from Southwest Texas (Texas State) with a business degree.
He briefly worked in real estate and had over 30 years of experience in the financial services industry. He worked for various banks prior to finding his "home" at University Federal Credit Union (UFCU) as Branch Services Manager on May 28, 1996. He worked his way up to Director, Branch Operations where he was instrumental in developing a branch growth strategy providing leadership from design to implementation.
In his 23-year career at UFCU he grew the footprint by opening 20 branch locations in Austin, Galveston and Victory Lakes.
Vince was a mentor, leader, and friend to scores of people and professionals; many of which learned from his tenacious passion to serve others.
He had many interests including, basketball, football, tennis, baseball, darts, pool, golfing, fishing, hunting, swimming, gambling and music. And loved his cats!
His compassion, wit, charm and intelligence will be sorely missed.
Memorials may be sent to the American Heart Association.
A memorial service for Vincent will be held Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, 5416 Parkcrest Drive, Austin, TX 78731. Following the memorial service will be a graveside service at 12:00 PM at Austin Memorial Park, 2800 Hancock, Austin, TX 78731.
A reception will follow the memorial service and a location will be announced.
