Keith Pevoto

Daniel “Keith” Pevoto, 52, peacefully passed away at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 20, 2024 in Austin surrounded by family. Keith was born on December 12, 1972 in Texas City to Robert Daniel “Danny” Pevoto and Karen Eaton Gordon. Although he lived in various Texas cities, Keith called Jasper his home. He graduated from Jasper High School, attended The University of Texas, and earned a Bachelor’s degree in surveying from Tyler Junior College. He was a Registered Professional Land Surveyor and owned a surveying business in New Braunfels.

After a year of progressing symptoms, Keith was diagnosed with Neurosarcoidosis in February of 2013. No longer able to work as a surveyor as the disease left him blind and a paraplegic, Keith continued with his love of music and would often say that “Music is magical!” He reinvented himself as a songwriter and frontman of Jack and the Box, a blues-influenced band that was working on their third album.

Keith is survived by his loving wife, Janella Simpkins Pevoto; his mother, Karen Gordon; his father and stepmother, Danny and Margaret Lins Pevoto, along with his three sisters Claire McGehee (James), Laura Pevoto, and Meg Wright (Matt). Additional survivors include numerous nieces and nephews, uncles and aunts, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, George “Honey” and Susanna Pevoto; maternal grandparents, Johnnie Earl and Donna Eaton; and stepfather Davis Gordon.

Although fighting the ravages of disease, Keith was an inspiration to many and lived by his words that “If you believe, with hard work, anything is possible!” and “Get busy living!”

A private family memorial service will be held at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home 2620 South Congress Avenue, Austin, TX 78704, 11:00 a.m., January 10, 2025. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research (FSR) or the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM). A Celebration of Life will be held later on a Sunday. Details will be posted on Facebook.
