He worked on a farm going during his high school years. When he graduated from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army for four years. Then he joined the U.S. Air Force for six years. Joseph retired when we came to Texas. I met my sweetheart, Joseph in 1958, we had three dates before getting married at Randolph Air Force Base.
Upon receiving his honorary discharge from the military, he became restless at home and I, his wife, wrote Senator J.J. Pickle asking him to help my husband find a job. He responded within two days, called me and said, “Mrs. Borek, right now you know he has a job.” Joseph became employed with the U.S. Treasury Department thanks to Senator J.J. Pickle; he retired after 20 years of service.
Joseph retired and again he became restless, this time we visited Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks after the death of his mother to bring a cheesecake to the staff. The manager came out and visited with us and after a few minutes told Joseph, “you look like you need a job!” Joseph’s immediate answer, “I’ll do it!” Of course once we were leaving my response to Joseph was, “Why did you say yes, are you nuts?” Joseph went on to work with Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks for eleven years.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Theresa Borek; his cherished dogs, Brandy and Maggie Mae; and numerous other family members and friends.
The family will receive friends at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 22, 2013 with a rosary service to follow at 7:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 23, 2013 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 4800 Convict Hill Road. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park.
The Borek family would like to extend a grateful thanks to the staff of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, especially Father Pat, Father Oliver, Laurie and the Knights of Columbus for their loving support in our moment of need. Thank you also to the Fourth Floor Staff of St. David’s South Austin Medical Center for the care provided to my husband and me.
“I say goodbye my love and I will see you in heaven one day.”
