John Marcy Winn, 78, went to be with the Lord on February 1, 2022. John was born on September 18, 1943 in San Antonio, Texas and lived in Uvalde, Texas. He graduated from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. After receiving his accounting degree in January 1965, he worked for national firms of Ernst and Ernst in San Antonio and Peat Marwick Mitchell in Austin, and then decided to enter law school and earned his law degree from University of Texas Law School in 1969. John opened his own CPA practices in both Uvalde and then Austin developing clients and friendships that lasted through the years. He practiced as a CPA and Tax Attorney until his death.
The love of his life was his family, wife Linda and children Jay, Stephanie, and Clint. He delighted in taking trips to Colorado, New Mexico, and Wyoming; hiking and camping, playing golf, hunting and fishing with family and friends. He was a competitive person and built friendships through the years playing golf, dominoes, UNO, pitch and other games, especially when spending time with grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Through the years, John was a part of many organizations: Boy Scouts, Masons, Lions Club, Rotary Club, Emmaus Community, Methodist Church, and especially Bethany UMC and Searchers Sunday school class. He served in several leadership positions and diligently and freely gave of his time, talents and gifts.
John loved the Lord and enjoyed studying the Word, and teaching others about Jesus, church, and the importance of community of faith. Especially important to him was to remember the two great commands: 1) to love the Lord with all your heart, soul, mind and strength and 2) to love your neighbor as yourself.
John is survived by his loving wife, Linda; children, Jay and Gina Winn; Clint and Trisha Winn; Stephanie and Chris Lusher; two brothers Dr. James Winn and Bill Winn; brother in law Bill Perry; grandchildren Kate Toner, Sarah & Justin Bell, Kellis Winn, Curtis Toner, Ashleigh, Tyler, & Emily Lusher, Derek & Davis Winn. Great grandchildren: Emma, Addy, Harper, & George W. Bell, and Merrick & Evelyn Toner. Nieces Paige Bryant and Monica Cannon and nephews Mark Winn, Mitch Winn, and Keith Perry, and many friends and clients who will miss him immensely. Many church friends will always remember his favorite phrase: “It’s all about ATTITUDE!”
