John was born in Austin, Texas on June 5, 1968 to Nelda Ann Cummins Francis and Thomas Phil Francis. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School and from Texas Tech University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science.
The youngest of three siblings, John grew up in Austin playing with neighborhood friends, and enjoying family outings. Sundays spent boating on Lake Austin, summer adventures and winter ski trips to Colorado, and long weekends fishing in Port Aransas were only some of the highlights. Of course, Saturdays were always spent at the preeminent social event of Austin- Texas Longhorn football games- either at the stadium or in front of the television, surrounded by friends and family.
John was an accomplished athlete. He played all varieties of sports growing up, and was especially talented at baseball, which he played in high school for the Austin High Maroons. As an adult, John continued his love of sports and outdoors by continuing to hunt, fish, golf, and also by volunteering as a youth baseball coach.
John married Reagan Acker in 2005. When it became apparent, at a very young age, that their daughter Sloan had a talent for performing, John became quite the stage dad. He took a lot of pride and joy watching Sloan sing, dance and act.
John is survived by his wife Reagan and daughter Sloan, his father Tom, his brother Scott Francis and his wife Renee, his sister Amy Allen and her husband Trevor. He also leaves behind nieces Langley Allen, Katie Allen, Vivian Francis and nephew Jack Francis.
