John L Baker, 84, beloved father and grandfather passed away peacefully on September 19, 2015. John was a positive influence on all around him and was always open to new ideas. His biggest love was his girls and because of him they became avid Longhorn Women's basketball fans. He also loved Longhorn football, Texas BBQ, traveling with Jo, history, reading and puttering around the house. He could fix anything with a roll of electricians tape, though the inspectors did not always agree with his handiwork.
John was predeceased by Jo, his wife of 63 years in July of this year. John is survived by his daughters, Ellen Tarbox (Bill) of Magnolia, TX, Dariel Baker of Austin, TX, Becky Schiffel of Austin, TX and his favorite granddaughter Kimberly Schiffel (Zach Davis) of Fort Worth, TX.
We will miss his quick sense of humor and his multiple lists of things to do. He kept his mind active by learning his new laptop and reading his Kindle.
Jo and John will be taken on their final tour of the Caribbean to their favorite beach vacation spots in the British Virgin Islands by their daughters and granddaughter at a later date.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Westbank Library, 1309 Westbank Dr, Austin, TX 78746 in the name of John Baker.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM Thursday, September 24, 2015 with services following at 2:00 PM at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home at 3125 N. Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78705.
