Joan Lynn Jackson (Joanie) 63, of Austin, Texas passed away Thursday, September 7, 2023 after a short battle with cancer. She was surrounded and cared for by her family throughout her last few weeks while at the home of her sister, Jennifer.
Joanie was a graduate of L.C. Anderson High School.
She started her career in human resources and spent many years in that field. She also volunteered at nursing homes where she discovered her calling in life as an in-home caregiver for the chronically ill, elderly and terminal patients. Joanie truly had a special gift through her ability to give so much love, compassion and respect to her patients . She had a sly wit and was entertaining to those she both loved and cared for. She became a part of many families as she had the responsibility of taking care of their loved ones. Joanie was witness to many patients as they transitioned into heaven and no doubt they felt her love. Joanie was an avid reader and a lover of dogs, having owned many thoughout her life.
Joanie is preceded in death by her father John Lionel Jackson; her older brother John L. Jackson Jr.; and her nephew Martin MacDaragh Heitzman. She is survived by her daughter Hollie Jane Horne(Ryan); her grandchildren Harper and Hanna Horne; her mother Frances Mary Jackson; her sisters Jennie Turnage (Gary), Judie Heitzman (Daragh), Jackie Hawn (Scott); her younger brother John L. Jackson III (Kelly), nieces and nephews, Brandon Ethridge, Kaki Plass (Paul), Max Heitzman, Trent Cameron (Erica), Jackson Cameron and Haley Jackson. She also leaves behind the love of her life, Don Walden, who brought so much joy, fun and love into Joanie's life in recent years.
Joanie will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Born November 28, 1959, Joanie was second in line in the siblings that were then known as "The Jackson Five". Her absence will be profoundly felt by all.
A celebration of life will be held for Joanie at 11:00am, Sunday, October 1, 2023 at Weed-Corley- Fish Funeral Home, 5416 Parkcrest Drive, Austin, Texas 78731.
