Jane graduated from Georgia State College for Women in 1943. After working in Indiana for a short time, she moved to Austin, Texas for work for the Girl Scout Council. In 1945, she married V. L. Owen of Commerce. After his death in 1949, she moved to Commerce to pursue her Masters Degree in Counseling from East Texas State Teachers College. After receiving her degree, she moved with her children to Tyler, Texas where she taught math and science at Hogg Junior High. In 1964, she joined the Southwest Regional Office of the College Entrance Examination Board in Austin. In her 20 years at CEEB, she marketed the Advance Placement Program throughout the region with great success.
In 1967, she met and married her second husband, Rodman Porter. She and Rod enjoyed a long life together before and after retirement. They enjoyed vacations to Colorado, UT football games and visits to their children and grandchildren. After moving to Westminster Manor in 1992, they became great fans of Lady Longhorns basketball and volleyball, attending as many games as they possibly could.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, her five sisters, her first husband, V. L. Owen, her second husband, Rodman Porter, and her son, Victor Owen.
Jane is survived by her daughter, Suzanne and husband Bob Paine, and her step daughter, Claire Porter; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Harker Heights United Methodist Church in Harker Heights, Texas on Thursday, March 31, at 1:00 p.m.
The family would especially like to express their gratitude to the staff at Westminster Manor Health Care Center for the faithful, kind and loving care they gave Jane in her last years.
