Loving aunt and Austin resident Jane Nichols passed away on August 9, 2007, only one day after reaching her 99th birthday. Born on August 8, 1908 in Hutto, Jane was the daughter of Agnes and Virgil Applin and the eldest of six siblings. Aunt Jane was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, and her two husbands, Harold Kaiser and Charles Nichols, a long-time employee of Coca Cola. Jane had two memorable careers throughout her life. As an employee of Scarbroughs Department Store when it was located downtown on Congress Avenue, she was an accessories buyer and always made sure her nieces had white gloves. Following her retirement from Scarbroughs, she went to work for the Texas Rehabilitation Commission where she worked in the Internal Audit Department. Aunt Jane is survived by nephew John Pearson of Tyler and nieces Janie Wisecup of Austin; Sue Anne Schmidt and husband, Richard, of Buda; and Susan Clark and husband, David, of Auburn, WA. She was also Great Aunt to John Wisecup and wife, Rebecca; Dana Schmidt; Danae Lancaster and husband, Brad; Dara Schmidt; Alex Clark; and Ethan Lancaster. Her family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to Ella Baylor, Aunt Janes caregiver for the past three years. Ella, you have been such a blessing. Thank you! Jane will always be remembered for her immaculate house and her sense of style and fashion. Not once in her adult life did she ever wear a pair of slacks! Visitation will be held Sunday, August 12th, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar, Austin. Graveside services will be held on Monday, August 13th, at 10:00 a.m. at the Hutto Cemetery. Obituary and guestbook online at wcfish.com
