James Terrence Stokes (Jim), 94, died on January 19, 2021 in Friendswood, Texas. He was born in El Paso, Texas on January 26, 1926 to Howard T. Stokes and Louise Marie Stokes. He had two brothers, Harry (his twin) and Michael. He also had two sisters Lynn and Patricia. Jim attended the University of New Mexico and then graduated from the University of Texas with a Chemical Engineering degree.
Jim worked for Shell Chemical Corporation for over 30 years, working in Pasadena, Tx, Teaneck, NJ and Houston, TX.
He spent the majority of his life doing what he loved, being a loving husband, raising two boys, playing with grandkids, camping with friends, driving a ski boat, fishing, scuba diving, downhill skiing, flying radio-controlled model aircraft, growing roses, helping butterflies hatch and always taking lots of photographs.
In retirement, Jim, and Marie, built a home in the Cross-House Estates community between Kyle and Wimberly where they lived for over 30 years and entertained their children, grandchildren, family, and friends on many occasions. They enjoyed traveling to Mexico, the Cayman Islands, Italy and Germany.
A long-time member the of the Church of the Nazarene, he attended church in Austin, where he met and married Lillie Marie Hocker. After moving to Houston, Texas he attended Park Place Church of the Nazarene and was a founding member of the Broadway Church of the Nazarene. After retirement, Jim and Marie attended the South Austin Church of the Nazarene.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife Marie. He is survived by, his son Terry Craig Stokes and wife Carol Ann Davis; his son Warren Dale Stokes and wife Amber Vice; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Marie Stokes, Lauren Francesca Stokes and Joseph Nathaniel Stokes, and his sister Patricia Cockrum. He was “Uncle Jim” to 17 nieces and nephews, numerous great nieces, and great nephews.
