After a long illness, James D. Smith passed away in Austin, Texas on November 17th, 2024. He was born on November 4th,1929 in Houston, Texas, and graduated from Cedar-Bayou High School in 1948. He then attended Lee Junior College until he was drafted into the Army during the Korean War. After the war ended, he worked with Humble Oil which later became EXXON and where he worked for over 25 years. He retired as an Operations Supervisor in 1985, and spent his time golfing and traveling the world.
He is preceded by his mother Annie Ruth Hudgens, father Donald Leslie Smith, first wife Martha J. Landmann, daughters Katherine Ruth Smith, Anita Loraine Henderson, second wife Shirley Mae Smith, stepfather Laurence Clay Barrow, brother Harvard Joseph Smith, brother in laws Ray Waters & Kenneth Waters. In addition, and his sister in law Carol Waters.
He is survived by his son, Donald Smith, daughter in law Ying Hong, grand-daughter Catherine Henderson, son in law Michael Henderson, his wife, Hiroko Henderson, brother Robert Barrow, sister in law Sally Barrow, Nieces Laurie Barrow, Vivian Schroeder, Ruth Barrow, Brenda Pena, Tina Waters, and Nephew Brad Waters.
