Chief Master Sergeant James Walter Giles, Jr. USAF, (Ret.), 87, of Houston, passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2015. James was born in Philadelphia, Mississippi on December 24, 1927 to James Walter Giles, Sr. and Jewell King. He served our country for 23 years and was a WWII Veteran. During his service, he was an Air Traffic Controller and served in the Berlin Airlift. He was also stationed in England for some years. James also retired from Texas Instruments after many dedicated years of service.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Normagene Giles; parents; sons, James Giles and Paul Giles; and granddaughter, Jasmine Jakimetz. James will be sadly missed by his loving children, Donna Giles, Michael Giles, Laurence Giles and wife, Julie, and Mary Peach; grandchildren, Pauline Cody-Hammitt, Turner Nevitt, Thomas Shepherd, James Jakimetz, Shelby Peach, Colin Giles, Jacob Giles, Ethan Giles, and Lauren Giles; great-grandchildren, Jonathan Foy, Phoenix Hammit, Karisma Hammit, Lillian Shepherd, Gabriel Shepherd, Eleanor Nevitt, and Dawson Shepherd; numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited at 1:30 P.M. at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 4800 Convict Hill Road followed by a Mass of Celebration at 2:00 P.M., Father Pat Coakley, Celebrant. Interment will be at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park with Full Military Honors rendered by the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard.
