Dr. J. Christopher Reynolds, age 72, of Austin died suddenly on February 5, 2010. Born to Robert V. and Brucille Bryant Reynolds of Haskell, Texas on April 3, 1937. In 1947 the family moved to Denver where Chris graduated as valedictorian of his high school class of 750. He graduated with honors from Harvard College in 1959, from Columbia University medical school in 1963. After a year of surgical residency at Bellevue Hospital in New York City, Chris served three years in the United States Navy at the naval base in Morocco as its base surgeon. After completion of his naval service he completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Georgetown Hospital in Washington, D.C and served one year on the medical school faculty at Georgetown. In 1972 Chris joined the Sadler Clinic in Conroe, TX, as its orthopedic surgeon for seven years. In 1979 he was awarded a fellowship in foot and ankle surgery in San Francisco. Following completion of the fellowship, Dr. Reynolds moved to Austin in 1980 where he established the Austin Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Clinic, where he practiced for 25 years, before retiring in 2008. He was Board Certified by the Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and was well known and respected throughout the medical community. Chris was an avid golfer and member of Austin Country Club. He was also an accomplished scuba diver, and enjoyed traveling throughout the world. During the past ten years the family enjoyed time at the cottage on Prince Edward Island in Canada. Chris is predeceased by his parents and by his grandparents, Judge Bruce and Ivy Bryant of Austin, and R.J. and Hazel Reynolds of Haskell. He is survived by his wife of 37 years Sandra Hagan Reynolds, daughter Ivy Christina Cappel and husband Jason and their children Gwyneth Ivy and Peyton James, and son, Robert Matthew Reynolds, and by brother Robert B. Reynolds and wife Janice of Houston. Also survived by numerous, nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 7, 2010 at Weed-Corley-Fish North Lamar Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 8, 2010 at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 4311 Small Dr. Interment will follow at Austin Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the Capital Area Parkinson's Society (P.O.Box 27565, Austin, TX 78755), or to charity of choice.
