Rev. Homer R. Green died on Thursday, July 7, 2011. His final days were spent with family and friends whose lives had been impacted throughout his life and ministry. Rev. Green was born August 16, 1938 in Kilgore, Texas.
A native of Kilgore, Mr. Green was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He served in Korea from 1960-1962. He was a graduate of Kilgore Junior College and Texas Bible College, earning his Bachelors of Theology. He served as lead pastor of churches in Liberty, Zavalla, Kilgore, and Austin, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Mary Green of Kilgore, Texas and brother, Loyce Green of Gore, Oklahoma.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sherline Green; son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Pamala Green; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Gloria Green; and daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Fred Gonzales, all of Austin, Texas. He is also survived by his five grandchildren: Brandon Green, Christopher Green, Spencer Green, Joshua Gonzales, and Morgan Gonzales; and his siblings, Bud Green of Ft. Worth, Texas and Marylyn Stallmann of Granbury, Texas.
Rev. Green was a loving man whose laugh was infectious and had a compassion for others that changed many lives. He dearly loved his wife, children, and grandchildren and the people he ministered to throughout the years.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, July 10, 2011 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Life Service for Rev. Green will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 11, 2011 at Christian Life Church located at 4700 Westgate Blvd, Austin, Texas.
