He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Edward Wilkins, Flora Ann Wilkins; and sister, Laniece Wilkins Seay. He is survived by his son, Tom Wilkins, and his four daughters, Gail Ayers, Patti Machac, Karen Mullins, and Sharen Wilkins; Nine grandchildren, Aaron Jackson, Shea Denham, Wesley Machac, Kimberly Salyers, Travis Machac, Elizabeth Roberts, Brittany Wilkins, Tyler Mullins, and Ashley Wilkins; Nine great grandchildren, Trey Akroosh, Harper Roberts, Emma Machac, Isla Vela, Brynn Denham, Peyton Denham, Riley Salyers, Penelope Vela, and another Salyers on the way.
Herman received his MBA from the University of Texas at Austin and served in the United States Air Force. Upon his return, he worked over 30 years in state government, and retired from The Texas Railroad Commission in 1984, as Personnel Director.
After retirement, Herman enjoyed gardening, vacationing in South Padre Island, hosting annual Easter Egg hunts for his grandchildren, and cooking up the best catfish with all the trimmings for his family, including his church family. He was a devout Christian, attending Dripping Springs United Methodist Church in Dripping Springs, Texas.
During this difficult time, his children and grandchildren had the privilege of being able to comfort him and letting him know how much he was loved and appreciated. He felt our love and reciprocated it daily. For this, we will forever be grateful.
We would like to extend our gratitude to the many doctors and nurses at Seton Dell Medical Center for the care they provided to our father.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.cookwaldenchapelofthehills.com for the Wilkins family.
