H. Adam Stevens was born December 7, 1949, at the military hospital in Frankfurt, West Germany. He graduated from Richfield High School in Waco, Texas in 1968, but not before earning his pilot's license and becoming skilled in amateur radio, and building and racing hot-rods. After a brief period at Baylor University, H "didn't even bother to drop out" and came straight to Austin. His stories of Austin's golden age include seeing music at the Vulcan Gas Company and Armadillo World Headquarters, driving the ski boat at AquaFest, and many colorful tales from his days as station engineer at KOKE FM. H eventually went on to earn his Master's degree in Physics from the University of Texas, and worked on the TEKTITE II program in St. John, USVI during his time as an undergraduate at UT. He also worked for many years at Motorola in MOS 8. His greatest career achievement as a physicist was his recent work building subatomic particle detectors with the Maya Muon Tomography Project under the UT Department of Physics. He spent many hours broadcasting HAM radio under the call sign NQ5H from his house on a hill in Bastrop, frequently taking shifts on the Maritime Mobile Service Network. He was a passionate and skilled marksman, and held a deep love for aviation throughout his life. H also enjoyed spending time in the Davis Mountains, and was enthusiastic about his burgeoning hobby as an apiarist. In recent years, H dived passionately into exhaustive genealogical research and was greatly looking forward to an upcoming trip to Scotland, where he planned to visit sites of his ancestry. One of his greatest joys of all was being a grandfather. He deeply missed his beloved cat, Max.
He is survived by his wife, Pamela Lynn, of Austin; son, Austin O'Neil Stevens of Denver; daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Stevens of Austin; daughter-in-law, Mary Costello Stevens; grandchildren, Olivia and Jack Stevens of Denver; sister, Avo Stevens Butler and husband David Butler of Sherman, Texas. He is also survived by his ex-wife, Melissa Jones of Austin, step daughter, Fontaine, husband Ryan and children, Stella and Nolan Schibi; father-in-law, Clive Lynn of Austin, son-in-law, Logan Ralph and members of the Ralph family, Marcela Sanchez, Santiago Grogan, and Rowan Ralph of El Paso, nephews, Chris and James Butler of Sherman, Texas and their families.
He is preceded in death by his parents, H Wright Stevens and Isabell Stevens.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 16, at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 S. Congress, at 10:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Friends of Bastrop County Animal Shelter: bcasfriends.org.
