Gordon Ware Cowden was born on November 17, 1960 in Waco, Texas to Mollie and George Cowden. He attended public schools in Waco, Dallas and Austin before graduating from Westlake High School in Austin in 1979. He attended Baylor University and graduated from Howard Payne University in 1983.
Gordon owned his own real estate appraisal business and enjoyed traveling, reading, hunting, telling funny stories, skiing, and history.
Above all he loved spending time with his four children; Kristian (21), a student at Colorado State University, Weston (20), who attends the United States Merchant Marine Academy, and Brooke (17) and Cierra (16), both high school students. He also leaves behind his parents; the mother of his children Melisa Cowden of Aurora; his sister Gaylynn Kendall and her husband Ken of Austin; his brother Graves Cowden of San Antonio; his brother George Cowden and his wife Shirley of San Antonio; nieces Hallie Wallace and Rachel Metts; nephew George Cowden; and great niece Sadie Jane Wallace.
Gordon will be remembered for his strong faith, his sense of humor, and his unwavering devotion to his children.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 27, 2012 at Riverbend Church, 4214 N. Capital of Texas Highway, Austin, TX 78746.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Gordon Cowden Children's Memorial Fund at any Chase Bank location.
