Geneva Lee Parker, born Sept. 16, 1922, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Asa and Leuna Ausbrooks, passed peacefully in Austin on September 26, 2016, at age 94. She joins her parents and brothers, Kenneth, Dock, Willis, and Perry to be with the Lord.
Her formative years were spent in Indianapolis, for her public school education and then she quickly joined in the World War II volunteer efforts where she prepared sandbags for overseas until her superiors discovered she knew shorthand and redirected her efforts. She married JD Parker on February 21, 1945. Seven children followed in the years following the war, where her preacher’s wife role took her to Illinois, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. In 1976 she embarked on a new life in Texas, working at Abilene Christian University and Abilene Public Library in order to be closer to her children there. In 1991, she retired to Austin to do the things she loved most, sharing her home with family and sharing her faith at Southwest Church of Christ where she was an active and devoted member.
Her loving memory is shared by children Becky Omdahl (Jon), Tom Parker (Sandra), Janet Nichols (Mike), Jackie Davis (Kent), Darla McDonnell (Rex), David Parker (Kathleen), Teri Chavira (Terry Manley.) Grandchildren dearly loved are Larry Omdahl, Jennifer Rumsey, Adam Parker, Leah Montgomery, Lauren Roberson, Mallory Martin, Halle and Willem Parker, Kelsey and Erik Omdahl, and the “greats” Carter and Kiley Rumsey, and Ellis and Cap Montgomery.
Her family cherished her, learning from her the love of music and gardening, the art of cooking and sewing, the practice of endurance, and the frequent humor and drama that accompanied life in the preacher’s family.
Appreciation is extended to caregivers, especially Janet and Mike.
A life well-lived.
