A retired teacher from the Austin Independent School District, Frances began her teaching career in 1962 at Rosedale Elementary School. Frances’ teaching career took her to several elementary schools in Austin until she retired in 1987. First grade classrooms were where Frances could usually be found where teaching excellence was on full display. Parents and teachers praised her devotion to students and teaching skills that led to the subjects being acquired. Friends marveled, and sometimes complained, at how much time was spent preparing lessons and gathering materials for the classroom. Teaching was a perfect profession for Frances as it was her passion and love to teach “her” students but also to learn from them.
Frances was introduced to Jack Trahan (Maj, USAF Ret) by fellow teacher Edith Ussery and her husband who worked with Jack at Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. This introduction led to Jack and Frances being married in November 1977. True love describes the marriage of Jack and Frances. Jack loved to cook wonderful Cajun meals and Frances loved to entertain. This combination led to Jack and Frances providing loving hospitality to friends and family for years to come. One example of this hospitality was Christmas Eve Celebrations which saw their house filled with people and all had a place at the beautiful table filled with the best food.
The love of Frances’ life, Jack Trahan, died 22 December 2006. A part of Frances was missing, Jack, for the remainder of her life. Near the end of her life, Frances was looking forward to once again being with her love, Jack.
