He leaves behind a great legacy of honor, valor, and a love for motorcycles! Ernest graduated in 1966 from Fox Tech High School and played in the varsity basketball team; He later developed a love for music and became a passionate drummer. He enjoyed going to live music events and jamming out with friends! Ernest and his loyal cousin Leo, along with many young brave men, served in the Vietnam War. During this time he was Part of Surgical Team Alpha, where he was a Corpsman on the USS Iwo Jima and was honorably discharged at the end of his tour in 1967. Later Ernest met his wife Esther and they were married October 26, 1985. Ernest achieved an associate’s degree as a Licensed Vocational Nurse at Austin Community College. When Ernest worked the Emergency Room, he was well respected due to his superb performance under pressure. Ernest also used his fluidity in the Spanish language to become a certified translator as a way to further up lift his community even further.
Ernest and his wife loved teaching and caring for children. They created an at home daycare where many of the children were able to get a head start before starting school. There at “Tio and Tia’s” they learned English, Spanish, American sign language, math, how to read, write, and good virtues. Ernest also loved Harley Davidson Motorcycles. He appreciated their classic beauty and admired the backbone engineering. Above all, he loved his wife Esther, who sadly passed March 18, 2014. Their kindness and love for others will continue to live on, and deeply in those who were left behind.
Ernest is survived by his step son Gavino Morris III, many family members, and close friends. Inurnment services will be held at Fort Sam Houston Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at 1:45pm. Honors will be presented at the graveside. Messages of condolence may be left at www.cookwaldenforestoaks.com
