Born on Thursday, March 12, 1970 in Sacramento, California, Eric departed this life in Austin, Texas on Wednesday, February 2, 2022. His creative spirit and mind were fed by a vagabond’s soul that took him around the world seeking beauty and experiential gifts that burnished his unique heart and spirit, imbibing the sounds, smells, and tastes of each fleeting moment. Eric found the love of his life and touchstone in Piaui, Brazil when he met Jeisa Oliveira. She followed Eric to Austin and, together, created a beautiful life and space in their magical place in East Austin.
In addition to his wife, Jeisa, those left behind to mourn his passing and celebrate his life are his parents, Robert T. Acosta (David E. Hales) of Austin and Dorothy J. Acosta (Jim Davidson) of Arlington, Virginia, his siblings, Edward K. Acosta (Holly) of Atlanta, Georgia, Meaghen (Adam) Weaver, and Phillip (Jacqueline) Hales of Austin, his father-in-law and mother-in-law Pedro Selestino da Silva and Maria de Sousa Oliveira da Silva of Teresina, Brazil, his sister-in-law Jacqueline (Rigoberto) Feijo of Porto Allegre, Brazil and his brother-in-law Jeova Oliveira da Silva of Teresina, Brazil, along with numerous nieces and nephews and his chosen family of childhood friends from Arlington, Virginia and around the world.
Eric’s legacy is his ability to meet the strangers of the world wherever they might be and weave them into a colorful blanket to wrap around himself and those that he loved and cherished as an enduring reminder of the power of warm conversation, music, and a good drink in good company. After his beloved Jeisa, Eric’s love was the sea where he felt the most free and alive.
Eric will be missed and remembered by all whose lives and hearts he touched. As you travel, search him out in the winds and waters and ways of the world and he just might lean in with you and laugh his tales into being.
A visitation for Eric will be held Friday, February 11, 2022 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, 5416 Parkcrest Drive, Austin, TX 78731, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 AM.
Vai com Deus e descanse em paz!
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to a charity of your choice in Eric’s memory.
