Emily Elisabeth Overbey left this world on Monday, November 9, 2015. Born in Santa Clara, California on June 6, 1986, she came with her parents to Austin, Texas the following year. Emily attended St. Theresa's and St. Louis Catholic Schools and St. Michael's Academy. She attended Loyola University New Orleans on a St. Ignatian academic scholarship, majoring in graphic design. She received the Scully Scholarship for Graphic Design for 2007-2008 and was honored with a one-person show of her portfolio. While serving as a teaching assistant, she participated in the winning team for a poster exhibition, recognized by the New Orleans AIGA.
Emily was a true Austin foodie. She personally subsidized the Austin gringo taco movement, although Uchi was on a permanent pedestal. A film aficionado, she watched the 100 greatest movies of all time, before graduating from high school. Emily had a natural sense of style, always ahead of the latest trends and sporting the most unique treasures. Her years in New Orleans made her a loyal Saints fan, and her favorite activity in Austin was attending UT football games. She worked for Stream IT as an administrative assistant and loved her job.
Emily is survived by: her parents, Lisa and Kirk Overbey; her grandparents, Dee and William Hudson of Houston, Lorna Overbey, and Susan Overbey; her aunt, Dorothy Overbey; her uncles, Ron Hudson and Darryl Hudson of Houston, and O'Shea Gifford; her boyfriend, Daniel Saenz; and her cat, Harvey. She was preceded in death by her younger brother, John William Overbey, her grandfather, John Kirkwood Overbey, and her aunt, Mary Kathleen Overbey.
Emily had a great love for animals. Her family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to Austin Pets Alive or a charity of your choice.
A rosary vigil will be held at St. Louis Catholic Church on Thursday, November 12, at 7:30 pm. Funeral mass will be at St. Louis Catholic Church on Friday, November 13, at 10:00 am. At the request of family, the burial will be private.
