Ellyn Maree Smith

Our beloved Ellyn Maree Smith, 52, of Austin, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, after an extended illness. Born May 1, 1969 in Dallas, Texas, Ellyn was a talented artist who saw only beauty, and its potential, everywhere she looked. Ellyn was filled with courage, conviction, and a constitution driven by thoughtfulness and giving.

For nearly 15 years, Ellyn was employed by Austin Community College. She found a home in the Admissions and Records department, which became her much loved second family, and she was a recognized student advocate. Inspired and encouraged to further her education, Ellyn completed her associate degree through ACC, and, with her classic tenacity, Ellyn worked full time while attending St. Edward's University, from which she was awarded a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 2012.

Ellyn is survived by her mother, Shirley (Zenkner) Scott of Austin; father and stepmother, James and Rebecca (McHenry) Smith of Lago Vista, Texas; brother and sister-in-law, Alan Smith and Nancy Moon of Austin; aunt Emily (Zenkner) Berggren of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; uncle David (Jan) Smith of Houston; uncle Stephen (Armelinda) Smith of Henley, and a large extended family of cousins and friends.

Respecting Ellyn’s wishes, no service will be held. Instead, celebrate her life by enjoying some of her favorite things: Take a class. Go to a museum. Plant a Monet garden. State your opinion. Visit New Orleans. Keep the music playing, and always have ice cream in the freezer.
