Elizabeth Ashley Howard burst into this life on June 18, 1985, filled with joy, energy, and creativity. As the baby of the family, Elizabeth was doted on by her siblings, as she brought a new excitement to our home.
She was up for any challenge her siblings threw her way, whether it was holding a stick above her head for two hours or being the best hider in hide and seek that she would fall asleep before we could find her. When she was younger Elizabeth loved to fish, work on cars with her dad, go target shooting, the Spice Girls, and participate in 4H. Her enthusiasm for life and captivating smile could even persuade the older family members to join her snowboarding, which proved to be painful the next day.
At the age of three, Elizabeth became an aunt and filled the role perfectly! As more nieces and nephews came along, she spoiled them with their favorite things, time and unconditional love. Between teaching them to drive in her sports car or going fishing (and being startled by non existent alligators), Elizabeth always left her "little ones" with the biggest smiles and best memories. Elizabeth was often looked at as a “big sister” to her nieces and nephews. She was the adult who would spend hours in the pool with the kids playing “otter” or “mermaid”, ride bikes, fly kites, offer advice, keep secrets and encourage them to pursue their dreams.
As she got older Elizabeth developed a passion for art. She excelled at glass blowing, street art and photography, and had her artwork displayed in museums and galleries around the United States.
Elizabeth's two babies were her little “golden girl”, Katrina, and her Ford Mustang. Katrina was Elizabeth's adventure buddy for 18 years and was likely the most pampered dog on Earth. Oh, and we can’t forget Elizabeth’s shoe collection that could rival any Journey’s.
After working tirelessly during Covid as a nurse and losing a sister to the disease, Elizabeth hung up her (ironed) scrubs and pursued a career in the crypto world. She was passionate about making a difference for women in a male dominated world and pioneered the Space Cabin - a safe place for individuals of all backgrounds to discuss their work and cryptocurrency. She valued her relationships within the crypto world and considered them family.
In true Texan spirit, everything was bigger and better when Elizabeth was around: the laughs, the energy, and the love. Everybody anxiously awaited the arrival of Elizabeth and her partner Marah on the yearly trip to the Hill Country. They would arrive with their truck filled with bikes, kayaks, games, gifts and food. More importantly their arrival meant countless happy memories would be made and we would be treated to Elizabeth’s Texas BBQ dinners.
Elizabeth LOVED to be active and outdoors with her dogs. She enjoyed hiking, kayaking, soccer, tennis, golf and lifting weights. Elizabeth was so determined to stay healthy she continued these activities after her cancer diagnosis, which came on her 39th birthday, June 18, 2024. Our beautiful Elizabeth was taken from this life by cancer on August 23, 2024, leaving her loved ones heartbroken.
Elizabeth is survived by her partner Marah Bright, parents Lewis & Diana Howard, brothers Lewis (Janie) Howard, Christopher (Krista) Howard, and sister Suzanne (Kerry) Short. She also leaves behind 14 nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her sister April, fur baby Katrina, and best friend Ricky.
Our family would like to thank the nurses and techs at Baylor Scott and White hospitals in Round Rock and Temple for the love and care Elizabeth received. We also want to thank Sterling and Rena from Heart to Heart Hospice. A special thank you to Marah for never leaving Elizabeth’s side as she fought to get a proper diagnosis, and served as Elizabeth’s caregiver the last weeks of her life. We are truly grateful for each of you.
A viewing will be held August 31, 2024 from 4-8pm at the Cook-Walden funeral home on Lamar Blvd in Austin, Texas. Per Elizabeth’s wishes she will be laid to rest next to her sister April Nicole in Ammon, Idaho.
