Elizabeth A. Cook, a long-time resident of Austin, died on Monday, December 22, 2003. She was born in Newark, New Jersey on September 2, 1906 to Stephen and Catherine Galik. Mrs. Cook accompanied her husband, Lionel M. Cook, on his assignments for the US Navy, including a stay in pre World War II China. The Cooks settled in Austin in 1946, where Elizabeth raised six children and worked for the Legal Department of Travis County after they were grown. She was very proud of the honorary law degree she received while working for Travis County. Mrs. Cook was a member of St. Marys Cathedral and an officer in the Altar and Rosary Society. She was predeceased by her husband, Lionel, and her son, Gregory. Survivors include five of her six children, Ramon Cook of Schertz, Jerome Cook of Alexandria, VA, Marianne Fitzgerald of Austin, Nonie Otto of San Diego, CA, and Margery Savur of Memphis; her sister, Dorothy Lutz in New Jersey; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday December 26, 2003, at Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home, with Reverend Monsignor Edward C. Matocha as celebrant. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery. In lieu of other remembrances, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army of Austin.
