Elia G. Gonzalez, 81, of Austin, passed away peacefully at her home February 11, 2011, surrounded by her seven children. Elia was born August 7, 1929, in San Diego, Texas to Ramon and Francisca Garcia.
Elia was a loving wife and mother who always put her family first. Her children were the light of her life and gave her great joy. All of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren made her smile every day. She will be greatly missed by all. She was a long time member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was active in the Women’s and Seniors’ Club. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.
Elia is preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Fidencio E. Gonzalez Jr, parents Ramon and Francisca Garcia, brothers Daniel and Raymond Garcia and sister Emma Garza.
Elia is survived by her children, Rene Gonzalez of Austin, Juan MarioGonzalez (Carlene) of Austin, Viola Verastiqui of San Antonio, Rosa Rojas (George) of Austin, Victor Gonzalez of Austin, David Gonzalez of Austin, Delores Like (Preston) of Cedar Park; one sister Beatriz Garcia of Corpus Christi, 19 Grandchildren and 19 Great Grandchildren.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening on Tuesday, the 15th of February 2011. A Rosary will be recited at seven o’clock in the evening in the Colonial Chapel of Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ten o’clock in the morning on Wednesday, the 16th of February, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 5909 Reicher Dr., Austin, Texas. Interment will follow in Cook-Walden Capital Parks.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to Mary Ellen, Candy and all the staff with Hospice of Austin for the wonderful care given to Elia in her time of need.
Serving as Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Robert Verastiqui, Daniel Verastiqui, Mark Verastiqui, James Overbo, Joshua Gonzalez, Michael Gonzalez and Matthew Gonzalez.
