Having known Ted since I was a boy I can only really call him Mr. Smith. My favorite Sunday dinners were when Ted and my Father both RAF buddies would tell war stories for hours on end. Ted in the Spits and my Father in the Lancasters, it is men like them that kept the world free.
A true example and member of the greatest generation, he will be missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing him.

I was away on a trip when I learned of Ted's death. The Spitfire I viewed in the San Diego Aerospace Museum was more meaningful to me on this visit than on previous ones.

I'll treasure my copies of your autographed books and my personalized print of Michael Short's painting "Double Strike On The Zuider Zee"

    I met Ted years ago in the Austin "Hangar" of the "Quiet Birdmen".  He attended many parties at my aircraft hangar in Lago Vista (usually wearing plad bermuda shorts, sandals and Argyle socks!)
  
    In the past few months I called him a few times to invite him out for "a pint", but, somehow, we never got together.  My Loss!.
  
    I will long remember getting to talk over drinks, "first person", to someone who flew Spitfires in the "Big War".  
    I have both of his books, a framed print of his "Spits" in action over Holland and CD copies of his gun camera films from the British War Museum.  
   He will be sorely missed.I will lead the "gone west" toast at the next meeting

    I knew Ted through the Austin Hangar of the Quiet Birdmen.  He attended a number of the parties at my aircraft hanger in Lago Vista (usually in shorts, sandals and argyle socks)!  He was always one of my favorites and will be sorely missed.

We were related, he was my Dads uncle, When I found out about his death, I had a  lump in my throat and tears in my eyes. The tears have stopped now, they are replaced with the knowledge that we 'found him'. God bless you EAW.smith.

God blessed me with meeting Ted when I moved to Austin in '81. He gave me opportunities and direction - priceless gifts. Job well done "Red Leader" - rest in peace and thanks for the memories.
