Dorothy M. Orton

Dorothy M. Orton, age 91 of Austin, Texas, died August 5, 2014. Born September 5, 1922, Dorothy was the oldest child of John E. and Myrtle Mungerson of Elgin, Illinois. She was raised in Elgin and following her graduation from Elgin High School, she worked as a bookkeeper in Chicago and for the Elgin National Watch Company in Elgin, Illinois. Dorothy, or "Dot" to her family and closest friends, married U.S. Army Air Corps Cadet Robert L. Orton in Montgomery, Alabama on May 29, 1943 which began her 71 year career as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

Dorothy devoted her adult life to the valuable and important career of a USAF wife and mother to 5 children while living her years in Illinois, Alabama, Mississippi, New Hampshire, Georgia, Ontario Canada, Minnesota, New Brunswick Canada, Wisconsin, Izmir Turkey and Texas, finally settling in Austin in 1968 and remaining there until her death.

Predeceased by her parents John E. & Myrtle Mungerson, Dorothy is survived by her sister Lois (Henry) Steadman of Gulf Breeze, Florida; husband Robert L. Orton; children Barbara Mitchell of Austin, Nancy (John) Page of Crossville, Tennessee, Tom (Shelly) Orton of Bigelow, Arkansas, Mary (Glenn) Rasbury of Dripping Springs, Texas, Ann (Anders) Andersson of Austin, 6 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and her nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home on South Congress on Sunday, August 10th, from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 11th at 1:00 p.m., at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, 4600 E. Ben White Boulevard, followed by burial at Assumption Cemetery, South IH 35.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, Breast Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice. Dorothy's family would like to thank Grace Hospice and Brodie Ranch Rehabilitation for their kindness and care.
