Doris M. Wilkinson

She was born May 29, 1924 in Saratoga, Texas to Albert Bradshaw and Ethel Sims Bradshaw. Doris was the youngest of four children with two older sisters and a twin brother. The family moved to Austin shortly after Doris and her brother were born.

Doris was a graduate of Austin High School. After graduation she worked for Scarbough’s Department Store and later for the Insurance Checking Office. At the Insurance Checking Office she met Alfred Wilkinson and they were married August 3, 1948. After raising one daughter, Doris went to work for the Texas Department of Transportation-Motor Vehicles Division. She retired with twenty years of service.

Doris began taking tap dancing lessons in her early sixties from instructor Judy Lee with a group of senior ladies known as the Dancing Dames. The Dancing Dames provided entertainment through recitals and personal appearances. Doris continued to dance with the Dames until her mid to late seventies.

Doris is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Alfred “Cotton” Wilkinson, and survived by her daughter Cindy Wilkinson.

Visitation will be held at 9:00 am on Friday, April 12, 2019 at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, with a graveside service to follow at 11:00 am at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery.
