A celebration of her life is scheduled for 1:00 pm on Sunday, August 29, 2021 at Weed-Corley-Fish funeral home, 3125 North Lamar Blvd, Austin, Texas 78705, with a reception to immediately follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Doris' life, and guests are invited to wear purple in her honor.
Doris was born on August 29, 1950 in Austin, Texas to James and Beverly Middleton. She graduated from Reagan High School in 1968 with the distinction of being the first female to earn a letter for intramural sports. She was married to John Steven Bart of Los Animas, Colorado from 1968-1988. They spent 4 years in Anchorage, Alaska before moving back to Austin to both work in the family business, Middleton Plumbing Company. The couple welcomed son James (1972) and daughter Maggie (1975), and Doris set about teaching them to be strong and independent thinkers.
Doris, a retired CFO, was a vivacious individual who loved dancing at the Broken Spoke, the Texas Longhorns, Texas Parks and Wildlife, the color purple, and was passionate about life-long learning through reading. She cared deeply about helping those in need through acts of service. Doris was a woman of strong faith and an active member of the United Methodist Church. She held many leadership positions in the United Methodist Women, the Council on Ministries and more, and was awarded the honorable Austin District Laity Award.
Doris is survived by her son James (and Kris) Bart, daughter Maggie (and Saaket) Dubey and their father Steve (and Jonnie) Bart; grandchildren Taylor (and Travis) Lefort, Alex Bart, Audrey Donovan, Gwyneth Donovan and Haley Bart; great-grandchildren Asher and Calvin Lefort; sisters Claudia and Tibb Middleton; cousins Lynn Lindsay and Linda Ann Johnson; and niece Sandy (and Guy) Lawrence.
