Delfino Briseno

Delfino Briseno, AKA Delfino Briseno Rodríguez, of Austin, Texas passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on October 6, 2022. He was 79 years old. He was born in General Trías, Chihuahua, Mexico on December 24, 1942 to Enrique Briseno and Carolina Rodriguez.

Delfino came from very humble beginnings. As a child, he began painting crosses and delivering buckets of water for the flowers at the town cemetery. Along with his friend, Gonzalo, they would challenge each other to see who could pick the most cotton and asparagus in the fields of Meoqui, Chihuahua in order to be able to play rolling a tire rim with a stick.

He only completed the 4th grade in order to work in the fields as a young boy. Later, as a young man, he began a job sweeping the garage of an autobody shop where he became an apprentice in order to learn the trade of auto body repairs. Having mastered his trade, he then immigrated to Austin in 1972 where he was a reputable auto body repairman or as he would say, he was an auto body surgeon for over 40 years. He took great pride in assuring that his work left his shop as if it were rolling off a new car lot.

To Delfino’s friends, he was known as “Briseno.” To his family, he was known as “Pino.” However, to those who knew him best, he will be known for his dedication to those he cared for and loved. Delfino was a quiet and shy man, but when the topic interested him, he would speak indefinitely. He was a hardworking and loving father who cared for the well-being of his children and grandchildren. He was most proud of his children and even more so, his grandchildren for all of their goals accomplished and milestones reached as he watched them grow.

In Proverbs 13:22, King Solomon wrote, “A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children”, and Delfino’s legacy will continue to thrive and live on.

He is survived by his loving son, Delfino Briseno Porras (Martha) of Chihuahua, Mexico; his three dedicated daughters, Leilani Kahookele Briseno, Carolina Kahookele Briseno-Garcia (Julio), Janine Kahookele Briseno all of Austin, TX; his grandchildren, Oscar, Joshua, Naomie and Viviana all of Oklahoma City, OK and Cristian of Austin, TX; his great granddaughter, Bella Rose of Oklahoma City, OK and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by Betty Ann Kahookele Briseno (wife), Enrique Briseno Porras (son), Jacqueline Amairani Briseno (granddaughter) and Joshua Enrique Briseno (great grandson).

Prior to COVID, Delfino was an active member of the Dolores Catholic Church.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, October 13, 2022 from 5pm – 9pm at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home South located at 2620 S. Congress Ave. Austin, TX 78704, Rosary will take place at 7pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 14, 2022 at 10am, Dolores Catholic Church 1111 Montopolis Dr. 78741 with Interment to follow at Assumption Cemetery 3650 S. IH-35 Frontage, Austin, TX 78704.
