Darryl was born on Oct 16, 1961 in Panama City, Florida to his wonderful parents Mr. Henry Taylor and Mrs. Eva Taylor. He accepted Christ at an early age and attended Greater Bethel A.M.E Church in Panama City, Florida.
Darryl enjoyed spending time with all his family and made yearly summer trips back to his mother’s family home in Panama City, Florida.
Darryl attended and graduated from Brindisi American High School in San Vito, Italy in 1980. Darryl was an artist and he loved to draw. He was an exceptional athlete; he played football and ran track.
He served in the 82nd Airborne Division of the United States Army in April 1982 until he returned to the Civilian life in April 1985 with an Honorable Discharge. Following his discharge from the Army, Darryl moved to Houston, Texas and began his career at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice as a Correctional Officer. At the end of his career with Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Darryl embarked on his next career as a Bus Operator with the Houston Metro Transit where he retired.
Darryl was the life of the party and he loved his family and friends. He never met a stranger. During his spare time, Darryl enjoyed fishing, going to the gun range, playing the Lotto, antique car shopping, pawnshop shopping, barbequing for his friends and family. Darryl was highly intelligent and extremely helpful to family and friends. He was known as the Caretaker of the family and was always there for anyone in need.
Darryl was preceded in death by his loving mother Mrs. Eva Taylor, who he cared for at her home while she was in Hospice Care.
Darryl was married to the love of his life, Toinetta Lynn Dunson on April 29, 1989 until the Lord called him home. With this union, they have one son Alvin Tramell Taylor (Ariel), Houston, TX. He has a daughter Kendra La’Shea Taylor (Justin), Houston, TX; and son Darryl DeVonte Mitchell-Taylor, Houston, TX.
Darryl leaves to cherish his loving memory his father Mr. Henry Taylor, Austin, TX; his siblings Yvette Taylor (Issac) Austin, TX; Gregory Taylor (Marciela), Del Valle, TX; Tramell Taylor (Lydia), Spokane, WA, and Eydee McCloud (Damon), Austin, TX.
He adored and loved spending time with his grandchildren Dabney Lewis, Adalynn Taylor, Major Lewis, Aaliyah Taylor, Alvin Taylor Jr., and goddaughter Aishia Hughes.
Darryl has a host of nieces and nephews who he loved: Joey Lewis (Melissa), Devin and Dylan Taylor, DeVaughn and Aaden McCloud, Gabby Dunson, Davina and Danica Taylor. He presence will be deeply missed, but not forgotten by his father-in-law Mr. Alvin Dunson and mother-in-law Mrs. Annie Dunson; two brothers-in-law Dwuane and Avery Dunson.
Darryl is loved by his aunts who helped raised him Ms. Emma Winston, Coral Springs, FL; Mrs. Barbara Bullock, Rosevelt, NY. His spirit will be forever cherished by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends Benny Chambers, Warren Hughes, Tonie Bryant, and Deidra Hughes.
