Maria Consuelo Rodríguez González, age 99, passed away on December 9, 2022. “Connie,” as she was known by everyone, was residing at Stonebridge Health Center in Austin, Texas. Mrs. Gonzalez was born in McAllen on April 8, 1923, and until 2014, had been a life-long resident of McAllen, Texas. She graduated from McAllen High School and attended Pan American College. Connie was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church and had participated in various organizations, such as the Catholic Daughters of America, L.U.L.A.C., and the Friends Organization. Connie’s talents were many, she was an avid singer and craft person. She loved to sing songs from the 40s.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Serafin and Esperanza Rodríguez, a sister, Oralia Rodríguez, and a brother, Juan Jose (JJ) Rodríguez, her husband of 62 years, Lázaro R. González, Sr., and her son, Lázaro (Larry) R. González, Jr. She is survived by her brother, Ramon S. Rodríguez (Usnoa). Also surviving her are her children, Melva González Codina (Omar†), Gilda González Sánchez (Herón), and Robert R. González (Terrie). She leaves behind ten grandchildren, Alan Codina, Claudia Codina McWhorter, Candice Mendoza, Mark Mendoza, Christopher González, Sandra González Sanz, and Lauren González, all of whom live in Austin, Texas. She also is survived by her McAllen grandchildren, Michael González, Suzette González, John Robert González, Eliza Sanchez, and Vanessa Cruz, plus several nieces and nephews, and other family members. Consuelo also is survived by eleven great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the Stonebridge Health Center staff for the love and care they gave to Consuelito.
Funeral services will be held on Dec. 20, 2022, at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Austin, Texas, 4800 Convict Hill Rd, at 10:00 a.m. On Dec. 19, 2022, Visitation will be held at 6:00 P.M. with a Rosary at 7:00 at Cook-Walden Forest Oaks Funeral Home, 6300 West Wm. Cannon Drive, Austin, TX 78749. Burial at Roselawn Cemetery in McAllen, Texas will be held later.
