Cherie Louise Riemer Henderson, a resident of Austin, Texas, was born on July 25, 1962, and passed away on June 20, 2023, at the age of 60. Cherie was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was co-valedictorian of St. Martin’s Episcopal High School, class of 1980. After high school, Cherie attended Newcomb College at Tulane University. She obtained a Bachelor of Science in mathematics, graduating summa cum laude with honors in mathematics and a minor in computer science. Cherie was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Beta Gamma Sigma in college. After college, Cherie was a School of Business fellow at the Tulane MBA program, where she graduated with honors. Starting as a young adult in high school and continuing until her move to Austin with her family, she was a beloved piano accompanist for the choir at St. John’s Lutheran Church in New Orleans. She was a gifted pianist, winning multiple competitions in her youth. Cherie was an exceptional daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend who excelled at everything she put her mind to. She devoted her life to her family and, in particular, her husband and two daughters. Cherie was an adventurous chef who could cook anything, was a life-long learner, loved walks with family and her dachshunds, loved painting, and spent many years cheering her girls on at dance recitals and gymnastics meets. Cherie loved to travel and spend time with family, especially in Seaside, Florida. Always the teacher, she guided her children through life and enriched her husband’s understanding of love and the world until the very end. She was everything to her family, and her memory will live with them forever.
Cherie is survived by her husband, Andrew Duane Henderson. She is also survived by her two daughters, Emily Caroline Walters Baker (Matthew Baker) of Arlington, Virginia, Diana Catherine Walters Cragle (Caleb Cragle) of San Mateo, California, and her step-son, Michael Thomas Henderson. She relished every moment of her role as “Mimi” for her two grandchildren, Eleanor Charlotte Baker and Owen James Cragle, including many early morning cuddle sessions and numerous “what’s for dinner” videos. She is survived by her brothers, Terry Riemer and Ralph Riemer. She was preceded in death by her father, Louis Riemer, Jr. and her mother, Roselyn Decossas Riemer.
A visitation for Cherie will be held Friday, July 7, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas 78752. A graveside service will take place Saturday, July 8, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Austin Memorial Park, 2800 Hancock Drive, Austin, Texas 78731.
