Charlotte Curtis Henderson was born in Dunlap, Iowa on November 8, 1914 and died in Austin, Texas on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at the age of 106. She lived for 70 years in Baytown, Texas until moving to Longhorn Village in Austin, Texas in 2009.
Charlotte was a graduate of the University of Texas where she met her husband, John Henderson.
She taught school in Hempstead, Texas and the Kinkaid School in Houston, Texas. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Baytown, Texas and was actively involved in church work, St. Cecilia’s Guild and St. James House Auxiliary.
She enjoyed her membership in The Service League of Baytown. She began a lifelong membership of 64 years in the P.E.O. Sisterhood Chapters AS, Baytown and DB in Houston, serving as President of each chapter. Charlotte was a life member of the University of Texas Ex-Students Association. She enjoyed playing bridge, reading and traveling with her husband and friends.
On August 28, 2019 John and Charlotte Henderson set the Guinness World Record for the oldest married couple of aggregate age. They were married for an incredible 80 years. This record has been covered by news organizations around the world.
Charlotte’s husband of 80 years, John Henderson, preceded her in death on October 16, 2020. She is survived by her niece Suzanne J. Free of Austin and her children, Julia Burns of Elgin and Jason Free of Austin; a nephew Frederick Curtis and wife Carole of Huntsville, Alabama; niece Marjorie Perkins of Tallahassee, Florida; great nephew Hal Werlein and wife Ann of Trinity, Texas and great nephew Brad Porter and wife MaryBeth of Sugarland, Texas.

A joint interment for both John and Charlotte Henderson will be at Trinity Episcopal Church in Baytown, Texas. 5010 N. Main Street, Baytown, Texas 77521, on Friday, December 3, 2021 at 11:00. Church protocol requires face masks and social distancing.
