Charles Robert "Bob" Busbey, 81, of Austin, died July 30th, following a long struggle with Alzheimer's. Born June 26, 1934 in Dallas, the son of Arthur B. Busbey, Sr. and Mollie Sandefur Busbey, Bob grew up in Dallas and received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. He earned a master's degree in business management, and an ABD/Ph.D also from U.T. Austin, maintaining an almost 4.0 grade point throughout. He served as a Captain in the United States Army. He worked for DuPont in Orange, Texas, Peat Marwick Mitchell in Dallas, Crutcher Resources in Houston, and Execucom, Jack Brown Companies, Texas Economic Development, and the Office of the Governor, all in Austin. Bob used his mechanical engineering talent to fix virtually anything, loving every bit of it. He was also an avid cat lover, especially the family kitties. He loved his Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd family, and was very active in church activities, serving on the Vestry, Stephen Ministry, building Habitat for Humanity homes through the church, and taking care of the church sound system. He had a gentle demeanor and a gentlemanly manner which were quite unique, and he was a very good man.
He dearly loved his family, including his wife Nancy, children Betsy Busbey Moss, Bruce and his wife Carol Busbey, Kathy and her husband Paul Lively, and Allen Sessions and his wife Mary, and grandchildren Mason Moss, Melanie Busbey, and Ellie Sessions. He is also survived by his former wife Barbara Hall Busbey, a niece, nephews, and cousins. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brother Arthur B. Busbey, Jr., and grandson Morgan Moss.
The family wishes to thank MPAC at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church and the staff of Park Bend Nursing Center, with special thanks to Hannah, Valerie, Janie, Christina, Ping and Titus for their extraordinary, loving care of Bob for the past 6 months.
Memorial services will be held Friday, August 7th at 11:00 o'clock a.m. at The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd with reception following, corner of Windsor and Exposition in West Austin.
