Chad Jeremy Holt

Chad Jeremy Holt, 46, of Austin, Texas, died August 18, 2019. He is survived by his children Jessica Burnie, Shay Holt and their mother, Lisa Burnie; granddaughter Maya Mohle; parents Bo and Johnnie Holt; sister Ashley Cuellar (Matthew); nephew Holt Cuellar and niece Carter Cuellar; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, and a multitude of cherished friends.

Chad was born in Galveston, Texas, at St. Mary's Hospital on October 3, 1972. His early childhood years were spent in La Marque, Texas. He graduated from Brazoswood High School and the University of Texas at Austin. He was employed by the law firm Been/Reposa and was the creator, publisher, writer and co-founder of Whoopsy! Magazine. Chad was a loving son, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. Throughout his life he was a dedicated UT and Houston Astros fan and a serious movie buff. He had an amazing memory of sports and movie trivia and hosted Football Karaoke on the air for years.

A constant contributor to the cultural fabric of Austin’s underground music and arts scene, Chad was committed to his creative output through his writing in Whoopsy! Magazine (drawing comparisons to Hunter S. Thompson from the New York Times), his bands, as well as his participation in the iconic 90s cult film Rock Opera and the critically acclaimed documentary about his life Total Badass. His annual Whoopsy! Fest parties hosted hundreds of bands throughout the years and brought together many facets of the underground music and arts scene. Chad was fiercely loyal to his family and friends, and had a magnificently brilliant mind and a huge heart. The world has truly lost some of its magic with his passing, and, on August 18, 2019, Austin became noticeably less.

A memorial service is scheduled on Saturday, August 24, 2019, at 1:00 PM at St. Austin Catholic Parish (2026 Guadalupe Street, Austin, Texas 78705). Immediately afterward, The Lost Well (2421 Webberville Road, Austin, TX 78702) will host a gathering of friends and loved ones who wish to celebrate the life, love, spirit, and creative genius that was Chad Holt.
