Carolyn Carter Worthen, 79, of Amherst, New Hampshire, and Austin, Texas died May 26, 2004, after a short illness. Carolyn was born in Waterbury, Connecticut, November 20, 1924, to Harry B. Carter and Alice L. Carter. She graduated from Amherst High School and soon after married Curtis R. Worthen. After Curtis served his country in World War II, they made their home in Amherst until 2003 when they moved to Austin to be closer to family. Carolyn was a collector of early day samplers, some dating in the 1700s. One of Carolyns favorites was: What is Happiness: Long have I sought the wish of all True happiness to find Which some will wealth some pleasure call And some a virtuous mind Sufficient wealth to keep away Of want that doleful scene Joy enough to slide the day And make lifes course serene. Carolyn is survived by her husband of 61 years, Curtis R. Worthen; her daughter Carol W. Robertson and husband Pat; her son Curtis R. Worthen, Jr. and wife Sue; her grandchildren Anne R. Seay and James C. Robertson and by her great grandchildren, Brittany and Conley Robertson and Campbell and Andrew Seay; and her brother Harry B. Carter. A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 27, 2004 for the immediate family.
